Providence Government Agencies

Providence is the capital of Rhode Island and hence it houses many of the important Government agencies of the state. The Rhode Island General Assembly, the Lieutenant Governor and offices of the Governor are present in the Rhode Island State House.

The local government is headed by the mayor and the city has a mayor-council form of government. There are fifteen wards in the city each looked after by a city councilor who form the Providence City Council. The city of Rhode Island is home to the US District Court.
