Austin Government Agencies

Austin has a Council-Manager type of government. The city has an electoral system that is an anomaly from the other large Texan cities in the fact that the seven members of the council are elected directly by the people. Out of the seven members of the city council, one member is an elected mayor who is accompanied by a city manager who is hired. Texas has long been known as a conservative state, making it a stronghold of the Democrats. Only the suburbs vote for the Republican candidates. The city's conservative nature has earned it the tag of the "People's Republic of Austin".
