Minneapolis Communities

Minneapolis, the city of lakes, is divided into eleven communities and each of these communities is in turn divided into several localities. The communities include Calhoun Isles, Camden, Central, Longfellow, Near North, Nokomis, Northeast, Phillips, Powder horn, southwest and university

The Calhoun Isles is an upscale community in Minneapolis located southwest of Downtown region. The upscale shops, restaurants and most of cities nightlife is seen is this area. The community is named after the two famous lakes the Calhoun and the Lake of Isles. Camden is mostly a residential community, although it contains two industrial areas.  Camden is located at the north corner of the city. Central community, as the name says, is the middle of the city and houses the downtown area, notable parks, museums and historic buildings. 

Longfellow community is basically a middle and working class community. It is named after the writer, Henry Wasdsworth Longfellow. Near North community is made of six localities, the area is mainly residential with middle and working class homes.  Nokomis is again a residential area and most of the houses were built in the early 20th century, the area is named after the Lake Nokomis.
