Visiting Del Mar for Work or Play

Ah, lovely Del Mar, California. For those in the know, Del Mar is one of the loveliest towns on the West Coast, bringing the Pacific Ocean together with a wonderful small town feel. Many who visit Del Mar on an initial visit fall instantly in love with the place and find reasons to keep coming back.

Whether you return for another leisure trip, a business opportunity or to pursue an MBA in San Diego, you can find almost everything you need here. Let's take a look at popular things to do in Del Mar as the fall season starts to come upon us.

Beaches

Some of the best beaches in San Diego county are located right in Del Mar. With an influx of visitors in the summer months and the locals enjoying less crowds in the off season, the beaches provide a wonderful spot for relaxation, fun and recreation.

Many say Del Mar City Beach (located 15th Street to The River Mouth) is San Diego's best beach. It's got great views and good surf for swimmers, surfers and boogie boarders, with easy access at most of its entry points. There are two parks here for families to feed the kids and rest. All around, it's a great beach for families, dogs, sunbathers, swimmers and strollers. One caveat: the parking fills up quickly in the summer months, so get there early for a good spot. Plus, it's across the road from Del Mar Race track, and the village of Del Mar is near as well.

Hiking

The beautiful Torrey Pines State Park offers rugged terrain, coastal bluffs and excellent trails for hikers with spectacular views of the ocean. There is great fishing with a deep population of local fish in some of the waters. And the views of the ocean from high above the shore can be mesmerizing. If you're equipped with a great telescope and good view, you may be able to spot ocean creatures (including leopard sharks) from up above.

Shopping

There's no better place to start shopping in Del Mar than at the Del Mar Plaza. It's located right on 15th Street and offers visiting shoppers a great variety of boutiques, restaurants, local art galleries, national branded clothing chain stores and much more. For those looking to do their shopping off the beaten path, try La Mariposa Boutique, which offers women's apparel, hats, handbags, shoes and accessories.

Schooling

If you decide to come to Del Mar for a period of schooling, there are many options for the college student or returning student. They are not beachside locations, however! You can look into programs offered by Mira Costa College, National University (LA Jolla) or Alliant International University to get you started, and find the right career path for moving you into your next step in life.

And at the same time, you'll have an opportunity to enjoy all that Del Mar can offer a temporary or long-term visitor.
