The independent city of Richmond is governed by a city council that has representatives from the nine districts of the city. The head of the executive branch is an elected mayor. The term of each of these district representatives is 4 years and the city council meets at City Hall located on Broad Street. The city is also home to some of the most notable government law agencies in the nation.
