Hartford Major Streets and Roadways

Hartford is a city which can be easily explored. The pattern in which the roads and streets are laid-down makes it easy for people to commute. The simple and easy pattern of the streets makes them easily accessible. The roadways are broad and are ideal for driving.

Hartford is a more commercial based area instead of being a residential oriented one. Hence the number of commuters is relatively higher than the other important states of Connecticut. The roadways and highways are patterned keeping the large number of commuters in mind. Downtown Hartford is intersected by the highways I-84 and I-91. There are two other important highways serving the city. The first one is Route 2, an expressway running from Hartford downtown to Westerly. The other one is Wibur Cross Highway. One can travel from I-91 to the Capitol Area of downtown Hartford via the short connector Conlin-Whitehead Highway.

There are several major surface roads which run down the entire stretch of the city. Main Street heads north to Springfield, Massachusetts via Windsor. Wethersfield Avenue runs towards Middletown through Wethersfield. Albany Avenue runs westward through West Hartford, Litchfield County into New York. The avenue runs eastward into Rhode Island through Putnam. Another route which heads west towards Torrington is the Farmington Avenue.
