The city and county of Denver has a population of 598,707 according to the United States Census Bureau. The estimate which was made in 2008 made the city the 24th most populous in the United States. The residents of Denver are generally known as Denverites.

The population density of the city is 3,698 inhabitants per square mile. As per the Census in 2005, the city consisted of 286,540 housing units. The average density is 1,751 per square mile which is considered lesser than most Denver neighborhoods. A Majority of the Denverites spoke only English at home with Spanish being the second preference. While talking about ancestry, people of Mexican, German, Irish, English and Italian ancestry form the majority of the demographics.
