Los Angeles Demographics and Statistics

With a population of almost 13 million, the Los Angeles metropolitan area is one of the largest in the United States. Almost 50% of the residents in the city are males while slightly over half are females. The median age for the area is put at 34.6 years and those between the ages of 15 and 44 make up almost 45% of the population.

More than half of the residents are Whites while others are Latinos (Hispanics), Blacks (or African Americans), Pacific Islanders, Asians, American Indians, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiians. Some of the Native Americans are Cherokee, Sioux and Navajo, while the Pacific Islanders are from the American Samoa, Guam and Hawaii. The Latinos are immigrants from Cuba, Puerto Rico and Mexico. 

Of those with European ancestries, the most important countries of origin are France, Germany, Ireland, Italy and England. For the Asian population, the countries are China, Philippines, South Korea, Vietnam, Japan, India, Pakistan, Thailand and Cambodia.
