Louisville Weather and Climate

Located in the Bluegrass Region of Jefferson County, Louisville experiences a humid sub tropical climate. The Ohio River along which it is located influences weather patterns as well. It plays a significant role in the climate and weather of the city. Much of the area is established on flood plains and is very fertile.

Being a subtropical climate, the city receives and experiences all 4 climates. July is considered to be the hottest month of the year with January being the coldest.

The wettest seasons of the year are spring and summer even though rain falls through the year. While the average annual rainfall is about 45 inches, the average snowfall is about 15 inches. The snow falls mainly in the month of January and February. The average humidity of the city is around 73. This remains fairly constant throughout the year and ranges between 57 and 73.

Occasional tornado outbreaks can also be expected in the city and winter can be expected to get in some sleet, rain and snowstorms. This city of extreme climates sees about 87 days of below freezing temperature and it typically gets about 31 days where the temperature reaches as high as 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

There is a lot of air pollution that is known to be trapped in the Ohio River Valley location. It is also considered to be the 38th worst city in terms of air quality. The heat island effect is also often seen here and Louisville often sees higher temperatures than the surrounding areas.

The best times to go to Louisville is during fall when the temperatures are not too low and the weather is not likely to send you back home due to the showers as well.
