Louisville Schools

In addition to the large number of public schools in the city, Louisville is a center for higher learning. The University of Louisville, the Spalding University, the Bellarmine University, the Simmons College of Kentucky and the Sullivan University are the 4 year colleges that are located in Louisville. The Jefferson Community and Technical College is a 2 year community college and there are also various technical and business schools too.

The University of Louisville is known for the discovery of the first cervical cancer vaccine, hand surgeries and transplants and a variety of complicated heart surgeries. It also has a health Sciences Center in Downtown Louisville that is dedicated to adding more research to the area.

The Jefferson County Public School System has a total of 89 elementary schools, 24 middle schools and 22 high schools along with 22 learning centers. It boasts of about 98,000 students at one time. The city also has a Kentucky School for the Blind for visually impaired children.
