Cincinnati History

Cincinnati is a dynamic city filled with heritage and history. The city is home to many different people. Among those people, some of the first on the land were the nomadic people in 13,000 BC which were found in the state of Ohio.

By 1,000 BC the nomads had disappeared from the state, however, their material culture was a base for those that streamed into the land. In 1,000 to 800 BC the sedentary Adena Culture emerged, which was confirmed as a highly sophisticated culture in 1902 when remains/evidences of their culture were discovered. There are still remains of this culture present today with the most spectacular being the Great Serpent Mound which is found in Adams County.

Close to 100 BC the Hopewell people in Ohio County joined up with the Adena. The Hopewell had been named after Captain M.C. Hopewell who owned a farm that had evidences of the Hopewell culture. Right around 600 AD the Hopewell disappeared from the Ohio Valley. Two cultures then replaced the Hopewell which was the Whittlesey Focus people and the Fort Ancient people which both disappeared in the 17th century.

Today the Cincinnati is a fast growing community that is stable and advancing rapidly into the future. The heritage of its people are from many different regions, religions and walks of life. The Northern counties of the city are responsible for much of the region's population growth which leads to the speculation that the Cincinnati area will soon merge with Greater Dayton. If the two cities are combined the population of the two will make up a population of roughly 3.3 million people which is close to the population of the Greater Minneapolis metro area. Should the two combine, it would then make the metro the 14th largest in the United States.

The city was originally formed by the US Census Bureau in the 1950 and was comprised of the Kentucky counties of Kenton and Campbell and the Ohio county of Hamilton. Surrounding counties took notice of the increase in the city population densities and the large number of residents within the area employed in Hamilton County. The metropolis then met the Census criteria to be added to the MSA.

Cincinnati is filled with culture and whether living or visitng, there is a number of things to do. About Hamilton County, Ohio

The Cincinnati area houses 2,131,151 people which span across numerous counties throughout the city. The Cincinnati area has 15 counties combined and the Wilmington, Ohio portion of the city has one county, Clinton County.

The city is a fast growing metropolis and considered the largest community to include parts of Ohio, exceeding the population of Greater Cleveland. Most of the growth of the city has occurred in the Northern counties of the metro area this is largely due to the speculation that it will merge with Greater Dayton in the future. By combining the two communities the result would be a population of roughly 3.3 million people.

  • Warren County: Warren County has a population of 212,693 and its county seat is Lebanon. The county was named for a hero of the Revolution, Dr. Joseph Waren.
  • Boone County: Boone County has a population of 118,811 and its county seat is Burlington. The County Is Named For Frontiersman Daniel Boone. The County Was Formed In 1797.
  • Bracken County: Bracken County has a population of 8,488 and its county seat is Brooksville.
