Nashville History

Nashville consists of a large mass of Texas land, encompassing 13 different counties, several suburbs, and many different neighborhoods. The diversity of the area is by far quite unique, as the large area holds a very large population of 1,583,654, which is made up of many different ethnicities and races.

The average income in the metro statistical area is about $31,190, which is spread across approximately 543,130 households. The unemployment rate of the area was 8.5% as of 2011, with a GDP growth rate of about 1.5% during 2010.

There has recently been great growth in the foreign born population of Nashville in the past few decades, which is a change from the past of mostly American born residents recorded. The metro area's principal city is now Nashville, and at first designation in 1950 only contained Davidson County. Since then, however, there has been an addition of 12 other counties, which includes several cities, large, small, incorporated, and unincorporated small towns that really mark the country of the area.

Nashville Tennessee Metro Statistical Area is the 38th largest of the United States, making up the largest within the state, although Nashville is only ranked as the 2nd largest of the cities in the state.

What really contributed to the growth of the metro area was the surrounding boom of population that occurred throughout the surrounding counties and cities of Davidson County, causing more and more counties to gain a spot within the metro area. This designation is used by the Office of Management and Budget as well as the Census Bureau, used to determine average demographics within the area.

After Nashville, TN, is the major city holding over 100,000 residents, with the largest of suburbs in the MSA including Franklin, Brentwood, Gallatin, La Vergne, and Smyma. The area is rich with economy, with the leading 500/5000 companies including Simplex Healthcare, Emma, Buffalo Lumber, Common Ties of America, SRS, Universal Safety Response, and LeGacy Resource, among many, many others.

There are several parks in the area as well, such as Shelby Park, Richland Park, Watkins Park, and the Old Hickory Beach Access Area, amongst so many others it is completely impossible not to find the perfect recreational gathering place, whether you seek solitude or a great place for children and families in the area. The area also holds great shopping and dining, with so many different venues located throughout the MSA as well.

The history of the area is speckled with a bit of change throughout the decades, with a growth in population that included many other ethnicities, including the Spanish and Mexican which have immigrated to the area through time.
