Miami is the 42nd most populous city in United States with more than 400,000 people according to statistics from 2010. The Miami Metro area is the seventh most populated area in United States. According to the census of 2000, there are more than 83,336 families and 134, 198 households residing in the city.

The population density of Miami is around 10,160 persons per square mile. Currently the Cubans make 34.1 percent of the population according to national origin, followed by Nicaraguans at 5.5 percent and Haitians at 3.3 percent. Segregating population based on race, Whites or Caucasians along with White Hispanics make up the majority of the population at 72 .6 percent followed by African Americans at 19.2 percent. More than 26 percent of the population in Miami is considered to be below the poverty line, even though the median income for a household is around $29,812, among the highest in United States.
